A "New" Old Pillow

an old feather down pillow made of ticking
+
scraps of vintage fabric
(to hide the holes and some stubborn dirt marks)
=
a "new" pillow for this wooden toybox bench

total cost of materials: 2 euros

My grandpa lived and, like many people, struggled through the Great Depression in the US. He never forgot what it was like and he believed in avoiding waste whenever possible. I'd like to think he'd approve of this project -- everything used was 100% recycled.

My husband helped me remove the feather down filling and then restuff the pillow once it had been washed. Despite our best efforts, it was snowing feathers everywhere (aaackck!), but we managed to have a good laugh about it. Three vaccuuming attempts later, I think we've finally managed to get it all!

I'm sure that your grandfather would be proud of you for many things, not the least of which are your talented workmanship, love of vintage things as well as your thriftiness. What a neat project!

We both know Grandpa would have loved this. I'm sure he is smiling down on all of your creativity and telling Grandma "I told you so!". I wish we had flea markets like yours - actually maybe I just wish I had your patience to go looking for the treasures! Love the whole picture - pillow, boat and all

Beautifull pillow which could perfectly suit on a "real" boat !

Just found you and now will pass on your link to my daughter-in-law in Lausanne. I keep telling her to find me something at a French flea market but she wants examples. Great inspiration here!

Regards, Ellen

I love using what I have on hand. This not only is great recycling but it turned out looking like it comes from an expensive shop too. Great job!

Hugs ~

My grandmother lived during the great depression too and I NEVER heard her complain even in her last days as she suffered with cancer and many other ailments. I love what you did here. It's making me reconsider the brown toile I had planned for my son's room.
