About Me

I grew up in the United States and now live near Paris with my husband (who is French) and our son. After moving to France nearly ten years ago, I discovered flea markets and antiques stores -- discarded objects on Paris sidewalks, too -- and have come to love all things vintage, including old fabrics and linens. These, in turn, have inspired me to make things by hand.

My family and I speak mostly French outside our home and mainly English at home, which sounds pretty straightforward. But my mind doesn't always make the switch as quickly as the situation requires, so I often end up starting a sentence in English when I speak to the man at the post office or to the woman at la boulangerie, then have to switch to French mid-sentence.

I hope I can put some coherent sentences together for this blog, where you will find posts on handmade projects and vintage finds, along with glimpses of Paris and little details of everyday life.

Merci de votre visite ! A bientôt...

  1. My mom (Angie French) sent me a link to your blog. I am enrolled in an American graduate school in Paris and seem to have much in common with you! French significant other, daily linguistic confusion...if you are interested, do have a look at my blog ambrefrancaise.blogspot.com

  4. How lovely you live in such a bueatuful city. My daughter lives in Paris with her French partner, and Im lucky she gives me a ticket every year as she hates flying.

She has been there 3 years and has found it hard as she has no friends, speaks little French and is now housebound too scared to go out due to the culture shock.

Just wonderring if u have any advice that may help her cope with change of culture and language. She is Australian.

  7. I just stumbled across your blog and am in love! I am an American who lived in Germany as a child and feel in love w/ Europe. Ironically I haven't been back in over 30 years but dream of the days when we will spend months touring France and the British Isles.

Just wanted you to know how much I am enjoying your posts and pictures! They bring back such fond memories!! At present we live outside of a truly little village (500 people) in the interior of Alaska but will be moving next month to Indiana. Ah, thrift stores, fleamarkets, and warm days once again! Umm... I can feel the warm breezes already and smell the lavender in summer!

    Thank you!!
